peace and blessings,
some things i learned while watchin Nightline last night:
1. Niger is in the midst of a Famine
2. 3 and a half million people are in danger of dying
3. most of those in danger are children
4. the U.N. issued warnings LAST year
5. Niger was first hit with a draught, then heavy rains
6. the heavy rains flooded farmland
7. the Niger government did NOTHING as far as asking for help
7. Niger is the 2nd POOREST country in the world
8. Aid relief is slow to arrive
9. Pictures can move the soul
ok, i watched this and some of the images made my soul heart. there was a child, about 4 or 5, that was to weak to brush away the flies that were IN her nostrils. then, there was the family of "nomads", eating the rotting meat of one of their dead cows from a bag filled with flies. there was also the images of children with skin sores, labored breathing and IV tubes. the images of hundreds of people waiting for food that would only feed a few. mothers with shrunkin breast holding on to their dying child.
These people are dying. yet, it isnt reported on your daily news at 5, 6 and 10. its not on the front page of your local newspaper. it isnt being reported as strongly as the bombings that occured in England or the young lady missing in Aruba.
its funny how America and all her allies are channeling BILLIONS of dollars to fight a WAR to gain more oil! And America PAYS farmers NOT to grow more food when it should be PAYING them to GROW a surplus. just think how much of that surplus could be givin or sold to countries in need! it can also be givin to those in NEED here in America!!
One of the issues discussed at the G8 Summit was the "writing off" of the debts of some of the worlds poor countries. all im saying is "duuuuuuuuuuuuh." the countries that loaned the money KNEW that repayment was not a REAL option, they just needed a way to keep a foot on the neck of their former colony.
Want to do the world a favor Mr. President, Mr. Blair and all you other big bad industrial nations? fuck looking for Osama! if you ever catch him, there will be a hundred more to take his place. plus, its just causing unneeded deaths and stress. how about sending some money, food, clean water and medical aid to Niger or any other country that needs emergency assistance. I wouldnt mind seeing those tax dollars used for the eradication of Famine....cause ingnoring it, is a REAL weapon of mass destruction!
